Does boots test on animals?

Dear Bunny

Thank you for your email and interest in Boots products. Please see below some responses to your questions which we hope you find useful.

Any further information, please let us know.

Kind regards

Julie

1. Does your company test on ingredients, product whilst in production or the final product itself on animals?

No.  Boots does not test finished products or ingredients on animals.

2. Do you test ingredients or products on animals through a 3rd party?

No.  Boots does not test finished products or ingredients on animals and we never ask others to do so on our behalf.

3. Do your manufacturers test ingredients or products on animals?

No. See above.

4. Are you owned or affiliated with any companies that test products or ingredients on animals?

No.

5. Do you/your parent company currently or intend to market and sell your products in the Chinese market or another other country, which requires animal testing by law to sell?

Boots will not sell cosmetic products in countries that require animal testing of finished products e.g. China

6. Do you use palm oil/carnuaba wax in any of your products? If so, is it from an organic and sustainable source?

Boots use of palm oil is actually very small, most being in the form of derivative ingredients manufactured from palm oil that are then used in our products. We purchase Greenpalm certificates against our current palm oil and derivative usage. We have been members of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil since 2006 and are working towards using only Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) where palm oil is a listed ingredient by the end of 2014. The Carnauba wax we use meets our stringent traceability requirements right back to where it is grown. More information is available on our websitewww.boots.com/csr

7. Could you provide a list of all of your vegetarian and vegan items?
Yes.  Boots Customer Care team maintains an updated list of all products that are suitable for vegetarians and vegans for onward communication to interested customers.  Any Boots brand food such as sandwiches, sushi and salads also carry a ‘V’ sign on the front of pack to indicate suitability for vegetarians.

8. Could you provide a list of all your paraben free items?

Parabens is a name for a group of chemical preservatives. Within the group there are some chemicals where safety concerns are driving a process leading to a ban or restrictions in Europe.  There are others in the group that are completely safe and which are really important as very effective product preservatives that are much less irritating to the skin than others, for example.

We actively manage all the chemicals we use in our products and report progress through our Priority Substances list on our websitewww.boots.com/csr.  Here you will be able to find a summary of the actions we are taking for each of the parabens we use and have historically used in our products.  For the parabens where there are safety concerns, we have taken the precaution of stopping using them in our products ahead of any legal requirement to do so. This is the approach we take for any chemical where we have concerns about safety.  We continuously review the ingredients in all our products and our thorough testing ensures that our products are safe for their intended use.

9. Do you provide sulphate free products?

Yes, our Botanics range is formulated without using sulphates.  Some other products within different ranges will also use alternatives to sulphate surfactants. These products can be easily determined by checking the ingredient list on the product label.

10. Does your company provide free samples of your products?

No.

11. Where are your products available to purchase?

Our products are available at any Boots store or online at www.boots.com

Vegetarian Alternative to Parmesan Cheese!

Introducing...

Sainsbury's Dried Grated Hard Cheese, Basics 80g

Sainsbury's Basic range offer a grated dry hard cheese. 80g for 0.99p! And the best part? It's suitable for vegetarians! The ingredients contain no animal rennet : it is made from; Medium Fat Hard Cheese*, Low Fat Hard Cheese*, *made from Cow's Milk.

This product has been partially dried, it has a strength of medium 3 and is 46 calories per 10g serving. This is great over pasta dishes and salads, and in my humble opinion, it really makes a great addition to classic dishes like spaghetti bolognese - I'm glad I have discovered this!

If anyone else knows of any more vegetarian parmesan cheese alternatives, please feel free to comment.

I just thought I'd let me fellow veggies out there aware of this, smelly, but yummy cheese . :)

Let me know what you guys think,

Bunny.

(If anyone wants me to do a review on these items, please comment).

So far I am very pleased with GOSH products and extremely impressed with their customer service. I will be purchasing more of their cosmetics soon and will post which items I bought.

Here is the response I received regarding animal testing:

Animals:
We do not test our finished products or have our raw materials tested on animals. Both because of company policy but also because it is forbidden by EU legislation. This means, that non of our products have been tested on animals - anywhere. Hence, we can not sell our products in countries which requires animal testing for cosmetic products to enter the marked.
